Good evening from the damp farm. We are finally getting a little rain, and we're grateful; we are pretty dry for June, and although we have had mild temperatures, the grass and trees are thirsty. Of course, we have a lot of irrigation for the garden, and we have been running it very regularly, so we are still looking good for production, but it's nice to see the rain.
Several people have asked about fruit, and we've been trying to get some blueberries, but our regular supplier is not selling bulk this year; the early cold snap last fall caused some damage to the crop, and they're supply is way down. Blackberries are next, usually from Hummingbird farm, but his canes also had quite a bit of cold damage, so we'll see what the crop looks like in a couple of weeks. The peach situation is dire; the trees were damaged by the freeze, and there is a very minimal crop. All this to say, we hope to locate some fruit soon, but right now things are rough.
Tomorrow is a CSA member Saturday workday, from 8-12, and we'll be weeding, planting, and harvesting. If you still need to get your volunteer hours in, it looks like we're going to have a gorgeous morning, with cool weather and cloudy skies. Feel free to join us. If tomorrow is not an option for you, but you still need to sign up, you can find the schedule and sign up for a workday here;
Finally, if you're a home delivery, please be sure to set out your tote for pickup on delivery day; we are getting low on totes, and need to have as many as possible at the farm.
Thanks,
Farmer Curtis
