It was another productive and fast paced week on the farm. Kimby returned to the country and the farm on Tuesday, which helped ease the load in the flowers, but we were busy all week taking advantage of the cool weather to get seeds planted and plants transplanted. It worked; we planted over 3000 broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, lettuce, and other plant babies. The cooler weather and cloud cover gives them time to get established before the weather goes all "Sahara Desert" on us next week. For that matter, the cool mornings also gave us farmers a time to reestablish our vigor; few things make us feel more energetic than an invigoratingly cool morning, and it helps us get through the coming heat, with a reminder that more cool mornings are coming.
Meanwhile, we're also excited to see crops shaping up for an abundant fall harvest. The sweet potatoes are looking really bountiful, with wall to wall vining, covering the entire plot. The daikon, beets, carrots, and spinach are coming up too, with good looking stands of seedlings. All in all, if we can get through this week of heat, we'll have a great fall season.
So we're enjoying the beautiful weather, and getting things done as we can... I hope you enjoyed this reprieve from the intensity of summer, and that you'll enjoy a few more weeks of swimming weather before the cooler nights and days of September.
Thanks,
Curtis
