Farm Happenings for March 12, 2024

Posted on March 8th, 2024 by Kimberly Decker

The middle of March means Spring Break for some of you (Curtis, Sarah and Family are off to the slot canyons of Utah this week!) and it means lots of seeding and planting on the farm!  Also, as the weather warms up, beneficial insects start showing up - like the picture here of a green lacewing!  Lacewings are one of my favorite beneficial insects - they lay their eggs on little stalks where aphids and other unwanted pests are and the larvae hatch out and eat lots of bad bugs! We are seeing more lady bugs around also.  We at Millsap Farm approach the use of beneficial insects in two main ways - we buy in good bugs and we try to enhance and conserve the good bugs that naturally call the farm home. Having alternate food sources such as pollen and nectar producing flowers helps keep our good guys working for us! Grab some fresh flowers, produce, pastured eggs and meat this week and keep an eye out for those lady bugs and lacewings!

Thanks for letting us farm for you!
