Winter has arrived! And with a fury! We spent the day Friday harvesting roots like turnips and beets which will probably be locked away under the snow this week, and spent the day today harvesting things from tunnels which won't survive 13 degrees tonight, like bell peppers and tomatoes. Later we made the rounds, covering crops inside and out, re-tucking covers which had blown loose in the gales that brought the snow, ice, and frost. We're settling in for an evening of tending the fires, propane heater, and keeping everything anchored against the wind. Still, there will be some really nice veggies on friday, including a little more spinach than we had last week (things are starting to catch up after a slow start in the September heat). And it looks like by Friday we will escape the worst of the cold for at least a while. I hope you're enjoying a warm spot on this cold evening, and as always, it's a joy to be your farmers.
P.S. Remember, we would love to have your fall leaves! If you rake them, we want them... We've got lots of space for them, and the path to the compost pile is well signed, so you are welcome to bring them out anytime. We do ask, if you can, to dump the bags, and either toss the plastic into the trash barrel, or take them back to use again. Our worms thank you; leaves are one of their favorites...
Thanks,
Curtis
