Happy Tuesday everyone!
It's that time of the year where every little bit of water goes such a long way. Are plants are thirsty and we are trying our best to make sure they retain as much water as possible. Using cut grass, banana leaves and even old cardboard boxes can help retain water in the soil so the roots of the plants can stay wet as long as possible. Every bit of rain we've been getting here and there is helping but the dryness is definitely slowing down production more than we would like.
On a more positive note, our slow production is making it necessary for us to partner with other farmers on the island to source some produce of the produce for our boxes. This week we are getting swiss chard from Roy Rogers, pumpkin from New Breed, cucumbers from Tropics Hydroponics and jackfruit from our neighbor! It's a lot of fun collaborating with other farms on island and helping each other out. While we wait for some of our summer crops to start producing more heavily, we can help other farmers out by supporting them and bringing their delicious crops to more people. Isn't that what farming is all about anyways?
If you are looking for something fun to do next Friday May 20, sign up for our next Slow Down Dinner! Andy and I have a great menu planned and we can't wait to share it with you all.
We hope that everyone has a great week, maybe do some rain dances or talk about grading your driveway and we might get lucky...
