The pic above is of a super important clandestine carrot recovery mission. Super important because, well, duh - we need the carrots. And clandestine because we couldn't tell the crew that we were about to spend a significant amount of time on our hands and knees hand weeding or else we might face a revolt...also, it's always good if the weeds don't know you're coming, their roots are looser then! Seriously though, we had been doing a fairly good job of keeping this carrot block cultivated, but nothing ruins the best laid plans like a really wet week. When the ground is wet, quickly cultivating through no longer does the trick - the ground is too moist that small weeds simply recover from the disturbance rather than die. So this block had an extra week of weed establishment and boy did they take advantage of it. But in the end, we prevailed...and it turns out, we probably could have let the crew in on the plan, they were good sports!
Be sure to swing by your pick up location to grab your produce this week. We look forward to seeing you at pick up!
