Well, you didn't actually think summer weather was here to stay did you?? We're looking at a forecast of lows back down into the high 30s in the next few days. We don't anticipate a frost, but that's a little closer call than we'd like to be making in June! Our harvest estimate will be a little more conservative this week because unusually cold nights can often affect ripening of fruits like tomatoes and strawberries.
We're finishing up some weekly planting and direct seeding now, and are looking forward to an ever increasing harvest list next week. Our summer squash block is just starting to produce as well as cherry tomatoes. So far we've been keeping up with weeds fairly well, and we'll aim to keep doing that by keeping them high on our priority list for next week!
It's time to get into your profile and customize (if you wish) your box for next week. In addition to the vegetables in our harvest estimate this week, we've got lots of great add-ons from other local producers.
Speaking of add-ons, we have some excellent local producers with great products to add or swap into your boxes. This week, we have:
- Farm Fresh eggs from the Miller Farm
- Pork from Double N Farms - ground pork, hot Italian sausage, bacon and pork chops!
- Fresh pressed apple cider and apple butter from Farm to Market Store
- Honey from McLaury Apiaries
- We're working on another sampling of bread to add on to your produce shares if desired, so for now, no bread option for an add on. Be sure grab that garlic parmesan bread from Dorio's at the market on Thursdays if you have become addicted!
Have a great weekend, and as always, let us know if you have any questions about our farm or the nuts and bolts of using Harvie.
Cheers, Bonnie & Rudy
Pic above: Freshly weeded rows of beans make us excited for the harvest and also a little nervous for all the picking!
