Farm Happenings for October 2, 2020

Posted on September 30th, 2020 by Kimberly Decker

Fall has officially arrived!  The cooler evenings and mornings remind us that we are only a week away from the first frost date, and while day time temperatures are still plenty warm, the change is coming.  Fall Broccoli, cabbage, carrots, beets, etc. are looking great.  We are staying busy keeping up with harvest, irrigating, seeding later successions of spinach, lettuce, and other goodies for November, and preparing greenhouses for cold weather.  The shorter days do give us a bit more time to reflect and review this season; it has certainly been a unique season, with tremendous growth in the interest in local food, great opportunities to serve our community, and an excellent crew to meet that demand.  We are excited about some of the opportunities that are in front of us, including a possibility of adding to our land base, which would allow us to increase our production, and also expand into more training and agri-tourism.  All this is pretty speculative, but it's an exciting prospect to consider, and has us dreaming of so many options.  Meanwhile, I hope you all are enjoying the weather and the vegetables.  As always, thank you for choosing us to be your farmers, it's a joy to farm for our community.

Thanks,

Curtis
