Hi CSA Members! Wow it's October! I don't know about you, but September when by super fast for us here on the farm. We had our first light frost this past Thursday which upset the okra, sweet potato vines and a few hot peppers but started the process of making the winter roots like daikon radish, turnip and beets sweeter. These roots store sugars as the weather gets colder - an anti freeze of sorts - which makes them taste so good!
It's also winter squash time! We supplement winter squashes (acorn, butternut and spaghetti) from the Amish community of Rich Hill, MO. You will start seeing this in your shares for the next bit. Speaking of which, we have 3 more weeks of "summer" CSA. If you would like to continue on with a fall share through Christmas and did not auto renew, now would be the time to sign up for that. (The distribution day changes!) As always, we are excited to be able to farm for you here in Springfield, MO!
