We all knew this week would come eventually. It is bittersweet. Today marks the final delivery of our 20-week Summer CSA/Farm Share organic crop season. Thank you for making it happen. A bright point of 2020 is that we've delivered 35 weeks of the year in our first full-fledged CSA year since rebuilding from hurricane Maria 3 years ago.
Please join me in recognizing all the hardworking staff at Ridge to Reef Farm, Little La Grange Farm, Cox Farm, and Leatherback Brewing Company for making it all possible. Scratching food out of the land is often beyond challenging. It's not for everyone. And thank God we have a local brewery.
Looking forward, the plan is to start our next weekly CSA season later this year. Until then, there will be plenty of crops weekly at our Farm Tienda on Mahogany Road Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11-3 so stop by. Make sure your settings are on auto-renew if you want to join next season.
Among 30 different crop options this final week we have a special treat - sunflowers from shoot to seed. After ten weeks the beautiful sunflowers have hung their heads heavy with plump, delicious seeds. Each contains a tasty kernel eaten raw once hulled or can be lightly baked in the hull with seasonings of your choice. At the same time, we are offering pints of juicy sunflower shoots which are incredible raw.
Pumpkins, arugula, okra, genips, mangoes, and avocadoes are also making strong showings in the boxes this week. Our cherry tomatoes will only be available at the Tienda and are in short supply this week so come early.
Thank you all for supporting local farms and we look forward to seeing you at our Farm Tienda in the near future:)
Enjoy this week's share to its fullest,
Nate & the Farm Crew
