Dry times are digging in and they might be here for a spell. So we've been making constant irrigation adjustments and giving special care to our youngest crops. We've also had to manually cover our tomatoes with netting to fend of the thirsty pearly-eyed thrasher (AKA trushee) who managed to deliver a blow to our tomato production this week. Yet the silver lining is that our watermelons are in, and the dryness makes them sweeter!
There are ample amounts of mustard greens, arugula, and more lettuce available than last week. Turnips are making a comeback that will be expanding in future weeks along with radishes. The carrots are holding strong for a few more weeks, while new crops are looking to start to produce soon like okra and dill.
Two new tree crops are in the inventory this week including the interesting baobab fruit and sweet/sour tamarind. The inside of the Baobab is often used to make a tea, which is then strained of the seeds and pulp. You can do the same thing with tamarind, or you can eat them raw like sweet and sour candy. There's also a good amount of fruiting bananas this week!
Although we announced that last week was the final week of goat cheese, Fiddlewood Farm was able toDry squeeze out one last batch of fresh goat cheese for the week!
