It's only Tuesday and we've already had a busy week over here on the farm. We have been opening up many new fields on the farm and with that comes many tasks. The crew has been working hard to mulch and fence in our new plots containing melons, sweet corn, cucumber, and zinnias that will be available later in the season. These practices help minimize deer and weed pressure and create higher yields. This time of year there are many pests present and the continual rainfall makes it difficult to address many of these pest issues. That being said many of our greens such as kale, arugula, mustards and bok choy have been suffering, however our continual effort on weeding and cultivation have helped many of these crops along so that they are able to make it into your boxes each and every week!
Fruit season is still going strong so we hope you are all enjoying the bounty of mangoes currently available, I know we are for sure. This week we began harvesting from our pumpkin patch and we have a few pounds available in the boxes this week. As always we have a abundance of zucchini and have been trying to get creative with ways to use some of our seconds. We recently welcomed a new addition to our team, Chef Brian Wisbaur who is joining us from St. Thomas, and he will be creating many value added products with our extra produce to add to your boxes and to our Farm Tienda, so stay tuned.
We hope everyone has an excellent week and holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
