Green has always been my favorite color, I'm sure this comes as no surprise seeing as I'm a farmer and all, but this week the green stuff has got me extra giddy. Our bok choy is killing it right now despite the dry weather we've been hit with recently so make sure to request a bunch if this is a green you enjoy. Pictured above is farm dog Bosco sporting his handsome green collar, posing in front of our beautiful heads of bok choy. Not really sure who is better looking...
Moving on from beautiful bok choy and handsome puppies, this week we will be harvesting the first of our avocados from the orchard! I'm still trying to contain my excitement. We will have a limited quantity available in the boxes this week but there will be many more to come in the next month or so.Keeping with the green theme we have an abundance of cucumbers this week so we have changed the base quantity to 2 lbs. If you find yourself struggling to make good use of your cucumbers each week I recommend mixing up a batch of cucumber water which is great to have on hand in the summertime. This variety of cucumber has a thicker skin than most so they also make really nice pickles. The possibilities are endless!
We hope everyone has a great week and tries to stay cool. Aside from sticking your head in the freezer, I recommend the latest line of frozen treats from Misfit Island Munchies now available at Farm Tienda as the perfect way to beat the heat. Unless I get there first, she will be selling a variety of ice pops, fruit juices and adult beverages that pair perfectly with fresh produce, how convenient right? Stop on by on Saturday for some good food and friendly faces and maybe even a tour of the Lawaetz Museum.
All the best,
Elizabeth and the Farm Crew
