This week I've been really focusing on the simple pleasures in life, the little things that make it easier to maintain positivity throughout the day. With everything going on in our crazy world and our busy lives I try to focus on these small joys, such as the simple beauty of honey bees pollinating a sunflower, or a tree loaded with little soursops that I know we'll enjoy in the months to come. The glorious weather this time of the year makes it all the more possible to find these joys throughout the day.
Our crops have been responding well to the longer sunny days and the little spurts of rain here and there. Pests have held off from total destruction and the deer seem to have gotten the message from our aggressive fencing measures....life is good. I'm really quite thankful this week for the culmination of all of these little details and the beauty that we have been able to produce while working with nature. It always amazes me how nature responds to the simple acts we perform, good or bad. My favorite example of this is clearing around trees. We have several jackfruit trees on the property and because of the hard work our crew has put into ridding the trees of vines, dead limbs and surrounding bush, these trees are putting off mind boggling amounts of fruits. I looked up the other day and genuinely though I was seeing double as I tried counting how many jackfruits I saw coming in that had made it past the initial stage of growth where they are most susceptible to insect or disease damage. Jackfruit a plenty.
I'm hoping my praise for the jackfruit will aid in their persistence against pests and mold and other nonsense that prevents them from making their way into your boxes. I also look forward to the coming of more broccoli, kale, and hopefully by the end of the season some flower bunches once again. I'm trying this manifesting thing out 'cause screaming curses at aphids and slugs hasn't been working out...
