It's about that time of the CSA season when we begin planting pretty heavily again, and boy what a week it's been already. Our staff kicked butt last week and got one of our larger plots turned over to be planted and it sure feels great to get that much produce in the ground. I think I've tried 5 separate times to get zinnias successfully planted but this one feels like the winner...hopefully. Otherwise I'll be out in the field in the middle of the night crushing slugs.
In other news a lot of lettuce and cucumber was planted today in hopes of getting it to the Farm to School Program and into your boxes. The kids need their salad greens too! As I mentioned earlier, we have had major problems with the slug population currently residing on the farm and it has pretty seriously prevented us from planting things like greens and flowers. Why do they have to go after the good stuff? Luckily we had some success in getting our most recent planting of bok choy in the ground before the slugs ate all of the babies, so those will be coming in greater numbers in the future. Tomorrow we are hoping to get some more zucchini in the ground and maybe even some more broccoli because harvesting that every week makes me way too happy.
We hope everyone has a great week and we look forward to seeing you this weekend. If you are looking for plans on Saturday nights in February (12, 19, 26) we have three Slow Downs this month so come join us if you can! Andy and I are cooking this month and we are really enjoying getting creative with what we grow.
All the best,
Elizabeth and the Farm Crew
