The rain we got over the weekend really helped save many of our crops that have been struggling severely since the start of this drought. The dryness coupled with irrigation problems we have been facing here has made it a challenge to keep many things alive, but we thank everyone for sticking with us and helping us along this season - we couldn't do it without you. The rain came right in time for helping those baby mangoes along, it's strange to not be riddled with mango currently and it's really been hard on my crop planning since I was anticipating much more of a fruitful start to fruit season. Basically what happened was all of the rain we got at the start of spring made most of the flowers on our fruit trees rot and therefore not get pollinated. So now we have no fruit :( But there's hope! Many of those trees that didn't start fruiting a few months ago are fruiting now so it's looking like there will be an abundance of mango and avocado later in the summer.
On another hopeful note - we had some incredible volunteer groups from Catholic Heart work with us last week and their help allowed us to open up many new fields for planting. We have a really small crew at the moment so it has been hard for us to keep up on some tasks but the work these volunteers did made all the difference.
We hope you all have an excellent week and we look forward to seeing you this weekend.
