Keep the bees happy

Posted on June 14th, 2022 by Elizabeth Gallo

As we continue to trek through this dry season I'm noticing more than ever how the lack of water is effecting the critters in our midst. The birds are getting into more crops than I have ever noticed, the bees are swarming around any drip of water and the deer are becoming more bold. It has been hard for us to keep our fields adequately irrigated and equally as challenging to keep the desperate pests away. Although I would highly recommend keeping a little dish of water out for the bees because keeping them happy is pretty important...

Despite our dry season struggles we bring you lots of exciting produce this week! We have tomatoes again from Roy Rogers farm and they are packed with flavor (I say as I am currently eating one). We also have lots of arugula, cucumbers that were saved from the birds and some other exciting items. I've been really digging adding a bit of arugula to my eggs in the morning, it's a nice way to use it up especially when you've got a lot of it.

We are also looking forward to our next Slow Down Dinners up at the farm. We have a dinner this Saturday June 18 as well as July 2 and July 16, so make sure to reserve your spots because we have been filling up fast. We have been getting creative with some interesting crops recently such as jackfruit, soursop and breadfruit and we'd love to share our concoctions with you all! If we don't catch you at the dinner we look forward to seeing you at our pick up locations on Saturday. We hope everyone has a great week.
