Here on the farm it's starting to feel like we ought to be building an ark! I've lost track of how much rain we've received over the past two weeks, but it's well over 6 inches and counting. The crops are starting to feel a little waterlogged. Fortunately, our deep compost mulch system helps us avoid erosion, and keeps the plants and nutrients where we want them.
It's also been a really great spring to have lots of covered growing space, and the beets and cucumbers are a testament to the effectiveness of those structures to keep crops healthy and growing, even while the weather is less than optimal.
The tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, and summer squash will catch up one of these days, but meanwhile enjoy the bountiful greens, broccoli, carrots, beets, and lettuce. We also have a couple of unusual items in the share this week, if you are feeling adventurous! If the Lambs Quarter is intriguing to you, here's a simple guide to cooking it; https://www.inhabitedkitchen.com/lambs-quarters-and-cook-greens/
Thanks,
Farmer Curtis
