Greetings!
The news on the farm this week is all about the Bee Top Fire, which is 3-4 miles away from our farm. We are not concerned about it, since it is small and there are plenty of crew on the fire (127 people in total including 4 hot shot crews)! But the near-constant air traffic dropping water is difficult to ignore and we can't help but wonder if the sound affects our plants in some way...There is no smoke to speak of, which is nice for us farm workers and the plants alike!
In other news, we are actually in a less-hectic part of summer, when spring plantings are all done and bulk harvesting (potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, winter squash) hasn't yet begun. We are getting caught up on weed control and projects, like new plant house benches (thanks to Spencer's parents!). We are also using our down time to forage for berries to stock our freezer and larder. Cherries, juneberries, strawberries, raspberries and huckleberries are on the list so far!
We hope you all are enjoying summer and the produce we are growing.
Katherine and Spencer
