Crazy July

Posted on July 5th, 2024 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome to Week 8!

It is July.  It is HOT!  We are thrilled.  After our field crops spent May and June limping along slowly, they are in for a wild ride this week as temps soar into the 90s.  All of the fertility that we applied to the soil last fall and this spring has mostly sat dormant and unavailable to our plants because it just wasn't mineralizing - or breaking down - and wasn't available for plants to take up.  Carrots, cauliflower, potatoes and celery - crops that have been absent or limited the past few weeks - will become available and hopefully in abundant supply.

We will spend this hot week watering non-stop (thanks automated irrigation!), picking fruiting crops before they become over ripe, and lying down in the creek.  We hope you stay cool and fill your plate with refreshing vegetables!
