This week on the farm

There are FIVE deliveries left in the summer CSA, including this one!

This week on the farm we started pulling our storage onions.  We are growing red and yellow onions and pink shallots.  The red onions will be available starting next week!  What we do is pull them from the ground and lay them out in a single, but packed together, layer on our farm-made curing rack.  We store the rack in complete shade, but it is outside and warm air and wind do a superb job of drying them down for long term keeping.  Last season, our onions lasted until May (when we ran out, but they were still good!)

We also put in our first fall transplanted spinach bed, so depending on how the fall goes, we could be picking it outside until snow covers it.  Our last outdoor arugula and radishes went in this week as well.  The high tunnels are filling up with lettuce heads, parsley, cilantro, celery, chard and kale.  This is our third, and final, "spring" of the year and it feels like the crux pitch of our season but we were able to tick everything off our to-do list this week!

Guess this crop!

Have a great week and we can't wait to start sharing our fall bounty with you soon!
