Fall Vegetables Trickling In

Posted on September 18th, 2024 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome!

There are THREE deliveries left in the summer CSA, including this one.

Due to some cancellations, we have THREE spots open in our Fall CSA program starting October 9!  Sign up on the Harvie website or contact us for assistance.  Spread the word and help us get our delicious produce into more households!

This week you will find a brand new product on offer: russet potatoes!  We have NEVER grown these before, and we heard you when you asked for them.  We're impressed, and will probably keep them in our production plan for years to come.

You will find fewer and fewer "hot" crops on offer (peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers) as they wind down their productive lives and we have to replace them with winter crops (spinach, cilantro, Asian greens, baby greens etc.)  We also have fresh crops of certain items like kale, chard and lettuce heads, which usually means different textures, slightly different flavors, and different colors; as crops like kale mature in a cooler part of the year, naturally they develop a darker color, more papery texture and sweeter taste.  The quality remains the same, but it is always interesting to compare the same vegetable at different times of the year.

We are back in carrots for the rest of the season!  We hope you can get your fill.  The whole family helped sort and bunch carrots this week!

Enjoy the vegetables and happy cooking!
