Dear CSA family,
I'd like to say it feels like Spring, but right now it is feeling a bit like we are back to winter. We have a fire in the wood stove, the guys are out covering up the plants, and we are praying that we won't get a frost tonight (Saturday). We moved to TN in 1995 and I remember well hearing the old-timers talking about "Red Bud Winter", then there was "Dogwood Winter", and finally "Blackberry Winter". It all sounded a bit strange and unscientific to us, but after living here 24 years we are starting to think there may be something to all those winters. Today I caught myself telling someone, "This has got to be 'Blackberry Winter' and Spring is surely right around the corner". Well, who really knows, but one thing I do know is that we picked our first couple pints of strawberries! Yes that's right STRAWBERRIES! We gave them to John's uncle who turns 90-years-old tomorrow, but oh the smell of real homegrown strawberries that have ripened in the field...we were salivating! Warmer weather is surely on the way and so are ripe strawberries!!
Have a wonderful week,
John, Pam & Caleb
Joshua & Kelli
P.S. Today we celebrate Christ’s resurrection and we testify that He is faithful, our prayers were answered positively and we had no frost last night! (we are in a frost pocket so if Nashville forecasts 36 deg. we can count on 8-10 degrees colder, but our low last night was 33! Last year a late frost took 80% of our blueberry crop. We are hopeful that we will have a great crop of blueberries this year.)
