Dear CSA family,
It felt like Spring today, maybe even Summer, but on Saturday night it was like we had gone back to winter. We had a fire in the wood stove, the guys were out covering up the plants, and we were praying that we wouldn't get a frost that night. We moved to TN in 1995 and I remember well hearing the old-timers talking about "Red Bud Winter", then there was "Dogwood Winter", and finally "Blackberry Winter". It all sounded a bit strange and unscientific to us, but after living here 24 years we are starting to think there may be something to all those winters. I have even caught myself telling someone, "This has got to be 'Blackberry Winter' and Spring is surely right around the corner". It really is! We picked our first couple pints of strawberries and gave them to John's uncle who turned 90-years-old on Sunday. I didn't eat any but oh they smelled so good! They will be coming your way soon.
Hope your week is going well,
John, Pam & Caleb
Joshua & Kelli
P.S. Sunday morning we celebrated Christ’s resurrection and we testify that He is faithful, our prayers were answered positively and we had no frost on Saturday night! (we are in a frost pocket and prepare for 8-10 degrees colder than forcasted, but our low on Saturday night was 33! We are rejoicing that we suffered no loss of blueberries. Last year a late frost took 80% of our crop. We are hopeful that we will have a great crop of blueberries this year.)
