Planting for Winter

Posted on July 26th, 2024 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome to Week 11!

Although it is high summer and the first day you wore shorts outside is still fresh in your mind, we are chin deep in planting for winter over here.  To have fresh crops to sell year round, we are always planning and planting for two seasons ahead.  So far we have all of our storage carrots, beets leeks and onions planted, and our winter high tunnel celery just went into the ground (many of you will be eating this in February!).  Our winter chard, kale and parsley are seeded, and lettuce heads will be next week.  It's a good thing we make our seeding schedule in the calm of December because it is our indispensable manual right now!  As long as we do what the spreadsheet says, we don't miss a planting.

These are our fall and storage leeks growing outside.

We hope you at least are living in the moment and soaking up all that our current season has to offer!

Enjoy the bounty,

Katherine, Spencer and Crew
